Biography:
As an only
child, Gail Sauter moved often with
her family (her father was in the
military). Living in different
cultures and in many parts of the
United States
has given her an insight into the
universality of people around the
world. This is an important thrust
of her work today and she travels
extensively while painting on
location.
"I want to
capture and hold a unique and
fleeting moment in time. To make it
real so that anyone can relate to it
and envision themselves being a part
of it. It is in the experience of
sharing such moments that we can
discover something for ourselves"
Sauter says.
Sauter obtained
a BFA in painting from the
University of
Oklahoma and now
works professionally in oils and
pastels since the early seventies,
and she's been awarded the honorary
distinctions of Master Pastelist
from the Pastel Society of America,
and full Artist status by the Copley
Society of Boston. Sauter has held
fellowship residencies at the
Virginia
Center for Creative Arts, the Vermont
Studio Colony, the Atlin Art Center,
British Columbia, and I Park in
Connecticut.
She is also listed in Who's Who in
American Art and her work has been
published in two books (The Best of
Pastel 2 and L'Art du Pastel). Her
paintings have been exhibited
across the nation and in
Canada,
Great Britain,
Italy,
France, and
Russia.
