Don Gorvett produces his
powerful reduction woodcut
prints on a large French Tool
Etching Press. He is a graduate
of the School of the Boston
Museum Of Fine Arts, and a board
member of the Boston
Printmakers.
The New England coast and the
sea are fundamental to the
artist's creations, which are
also influenced by a romantic
passion for history, dram and
music. His shills as a
draughtsman and his through
understanding of the medium of
print are prominent features of
his bold graphic style. These
Woodcuts express the abstract
geometric shapes and distant
configurations of our
architecture in the Northeast.
Upon the sea waters of estuaries
and harbors are mirrored the
play of interweaving lights and
darks of buildings and piers
crowned by steeples and mast
tops. I am fascinated by the
ghostly quality of these
buildings looming out of the
mists, endowed with strength and
endurance. For me, historic
architecture represents a bridge
between one life-span Into
another. Abandoned not by time,
but by those who built them, our
structures remain and continue
to wage war with nature's
elements. Mr. Gorvett Has
exhibited with the Charlotte
Printmakers of North Carolina,
and was invited by the Fitchburg
Art Museum to participate in the
New England Impressions exhibit
which traveled to West Germany.
His works may be found in
collections of the Portland
Museum of Art, Ogunquit museum
of American Art, Cape Ann
Historical Museum, Duxbury Art
Complex, The Bowersock Gallery,
and numerous corporate and
private Collections.
