Rose
is like one of those movies stars you hear about who work
for years at there craft to become an overnight success. She
is a success, but there nothing overnight about it, says gallery owner Steve Bowersock.
Rose has worked tirelessly for years, refusing to exhibit
her work till she reached a point of personal satisfaction.
The results are some of the most individual, and exciting
work among emerging artist in the art rich region she works
in, and a true national talent.
A
graduate of Syracuse University College of Visual and
Performing Arts, the 30 year old creates gusty abstract
work, tinged with organic shapes. Her oils include Xerox
lithography used as a collage element. Umerlik work is
marked by a fearlessness and mastery of color, and an
instinct for balance, but more importantly a personal
language that hits a cord with others.
Abstract
work is generally less personal, perhaps colder than other
forms. Not so with Rose. Her work is always exciting, and
moving. There are times she offers a respite, a place of
peace, and others when it is rousing like a full-bodied
aria. I think the hardest thing to understand is that this
mature work is being created by such a young hand.
Bowersock
will also exhibit the work of more than a dozen stable
artists in its salon studio, throughout its 11 seasonal
exhibitions.
The
work will consist of oils, watercolor, collage,
multi-media, blown glass, and pottery, and clay, bronze and
mache sculpture, running the gambit of styles. Bowersock
represents artist from throughout the New Hampshire, Maine
seacoast area, a historically art rich community. For a

We have
maintained last year’s collection of artists, and added a
few new ones found during our exhaustive hunts during the
winter downtime. I think the reputation we gained our first
year out, for art of quality and vision will not only be
upheld this year, but enhanced,
says Bowersock. With Rose,
start off with a bang, and we won’t be letting up.
